Preventing Sexual Harassment
Policies, Procedures and Training as Preventive Measures.
The Supreme Court recently held that the establishment and enforcement of anti-harassment policies and procedures
are critical in defending sexual harassment lawsuits. The Court ruled that if an employer has an anti-sexual harassment
policy and an internal procedure for dealing with complaints from employees, the burden falls on the employees to show
why they did not use the tools provided to resolve the conflict. So now more than ever, policies, procedures and
training not only can help protect employees, but also the employer.
Overview of Workshops
Bose McKinney & Evans offers two types of Preventing Sexual Harassment workshops; one prepared for all
employees and a second for supervisors and managers. The workshop for all employees is designed to help increase
their awareness of inappropriate behavior and to deal with problems through official channels. The workshop for managers
and supervisors concentrates on the skills and tools needed to help protect employees and the company from harassment
and its many negative side effects.
Workshop Objectives
For All Employees
- Develop an understanding of legal prohibitions against harassment
- Recognize inappropriate behavior
- Adopt and utilize procedures for handling inappropriate behavior
- Prevent inappropriate behavior in the workplace
- Resolve and remedy complaints of inappropriate behavior
For Managers and Supervisors
More in-depth focus on the issues mentioned above plus step-by-step training on how to investigate, analyze and
resolve sexual harassment complaints.
Union Awareness Program
Awareness to Action
One of the best ways for a business to remain union- free is to be aware of the issues and reasons that often
drive employees to organize. Wages, benefits, job security and safety are the concerns which frequently pit the
workers against the company. From this awareness, a proactive campaign to avoid unions should be implemented utilizing
clear communication with employees, fair treatment of workers and well executed human resources policies.
Attorneys from the Labor & Employment Law Group of Bose McKinney & Evans have developed a workshop to teach
managers how to establish policies and lines of communication to help prevent union formations. Should a movement
toward unions begin, the attorneys have steps management should take during the campaign to reduce the
likelihood of votes in favor of a union.
Workshop Agenda
Tips for Remaining Union-Free:
- Union-Free Policies
- No Solicitation, No Distribution, No Access Policies
