Section 504 Compliance Package

Presented by Marge Bannon Miller

Is your school staff knowledgeable about the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as it pertains to K-12 students?

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was enacted to eliminate discrimination on the basis of disabilities in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. The regulations prohibit denying a qualified individual with disabilities specific opportunities equal to that of others and separating persons with disabilities (unless such action is necessary to provide effective service to that person). Section 504 also protects the rights of, and prohibits discrimination against, a person with disabilities.

The Section 504 Compliance Package contains both printed materials and a two-hour training presentation on video. The package also contains a copy of the Section 504 regulations as well as a series of forms, provided in both printed and electronic formats. These forms are not copyrighted, so you may edit them to meet the needs of your school district. Finally, after viewing the video, a Bose McKinney & Evans attorney can address the specific questions and concerns of your staff in a question and answer session. We can conduct Q&A periods in person, by teleconference, or by videoconference at our usual hourly rates.
