A resident of Mishawaka, Hedman worked as a summer associate at Bose McKinney & Evans in 2006. He earned his bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Notre Dame. Hedman also served as an intern for the St. Joseph County Public Defender’s Office and the Office of the Attorney General, State of Indiana.

While in law school, Hedman was on the Dean’s List, participated in Moot Court Appellate and Moot Court Trial, and was a member of the Student Bar Association, Christian Legal Society and Federalist Society.
