A resident of Indianapolis, Yates worked as a summer associate at Bose McKinney & Evans in 2006. She earned bachelor of arts degrees in political science and history from the University of Georgia and her law degree from Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis.

While in law school, Yates was on the Dean’s List, a member of Phi Delta Phi, note development editor for Indiana Law Review, a board member of Dean’s Tutorial Society, student member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and a participant of the Moot Court Competition.
