Daniel C. Emerson

Profile

Dan Emerson is chair of the firm's Sports, Entertainment and Media Group and serves as General Counsel to the Indianapolis Colts. In addition, Mr. Emerson has represented other businesses throughout the country in litigation and employment-related matters. He has been an attorney with the firm since 1979 and a partner since 1984. After graduating from Macalester College, Mr. Emerson attended law school at Indiana University - Bloomington, where he served as managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal. Mr. Emerson is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, American, Federal and Seventh Circuit Bar Associations, and is a past chairman of both the Indiana State and Indianapolis Bar Associations’ Labor and Employment Law Sections. He also has served as an adjunct professor of personnel law at Indiana University - Indianapolis.

Mr. Emerson has written numerous articles and lectured extensively on various sports and employment-related issues, including player contract and grievance issues, dispute-resolution procedures, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the National Labor Relations Act, Title VII, the American with Disabilities Act, employee monitoring and surveillance, and policy administration. His articles have appeared in publications such as the   Indiana Law Journal, Indianapolis Business Journal, Indiana Business Magazine, and the publications of the Indiana Manufacturers’ Association and the American Bar Association. He has also lectured extensively to groups of CEOs, bar associations, the National Football League, continuing education seminars, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the Indiana Bankers Association.
