Fraternity & Sorority Law

John Millspaugh

Fraternities and sororities provide unique opportunities for leadership, service and community. They are also complex organizations, balancing business realities while respecting the relationship bonds on which they are built.

Our team understands the dynamic landscape affecting national fraternities and sororities. In addition to the opportunities and challenges presented by the multi-generational nature of lifelong membership, we recognize the changes in higher education and public perception of the fraternity and sorority experience. We also are aware of the national and multi-organizational efforts underway to preserve the fundamental freedom of association on which fraternities and sororities are based.

Many attorneys have benefited from membership in sororities or fraternities and continue to work alongside national organizations and local chapters in meaningful ways. Our attorneys advise collegiate chapters, volunteer with local house corporations, participate in university and national committees and serve on national councils. With respect for tradition and knowledge of current issues, we help fraternities and sororities fulfill their missions by providing sound, practical advice on a variety of business and legal issues, from real estate and zoning to employee benefits to risk management to strategic communications and beyond.

The team’s knowledge of this unique area allows us to assist organizations with broad-based and evolving legal needs.
