Fraternity and Sorority Law

Fraternities and sororities provide unique opportunities for leadership, service and community. They are also complex organizations, balancing business realities while respecting the relationship bonds on which they are built.

BME understands the dynamic landscape affecting national fraternities and sororities. In addition to the opportunities andchallenges presented by the multi-generational nature of lifelong membership, we recognize changes in higher education andpublic perception of the fraternity and sorority experience. We are also aware of the national and multi-organizational effortsunderway to preserve the fundamental freedom of association on which fraternities and sororities are based.

Many BME attorneys have benefited from membership in sororities or fraternities and continue to work alongside national organizations and local chapters in meaningful ways. Our attorneys advise collegiate chapters, volunteer with local house corporations, participate in university and national committees and serve on national councils. With respect for tradition and knowledge of current issues, we help fraternities and sororities fulfill their missions by providing sound, practical advice on a variety of business and legal issues, from real estate and zoning to employee benefits to risk management and strategic communications and beyond.

The BME team’s knowledge of this unique area allow us to assist organizations with broad-based and evolving legal needs.
