Profile

James Brown is a principal with Bose Public Affairs Group and works in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Prior to joining Bose, he was Director for Advocacy in the American Chemical Society’s Office of Public Affairs where he managed a six-person government affairs team to advance the Society’s interests on a broad array of science and technology, education and workforce, energy and environment, and chemical industry matters. While at ACS, Brown led successful efforts to create new programs at the Department of Energy to bolster university-level nuclear science training, expand efforts at the National Science Foundation to aid high-school science laboratories and foster basic research to develop Green Chemistry practices, and increase funding for the Department of Education’s Math and Science Partnership program. He also served as the Co-Chair of the STEM Education Coalition, a 500 member advocacy alliance of business, science and technology, and education organizations.

A nuclear engineer by training, James previously worked as a Legislative Aide for Rep. Doc Hastings of Washington as an advisor on energy, science, and environmental matters, was director of Policy and Development at the Consumer Energy Council of America, and began his career as an engineer with Newport News Shipbuilding, working on aircraft carrier construction and Department of Energy Environment Management contracts. While at Newport News, he worked as a contractor at the Savannah River, Oak Ridge, and Hanford nuclear sites.

Education

James received a B.S. from the University of New Mexico and an M.S. from Penn State, both in nuclear engineering. He also holds an MBA from George Washington University.
